Today, I’m so tired and sleepy after more than 2 km kilometer walk to the Zoo yesterday with my son Michael Ivan and some pupils from St. Anne School.

As the temperature goes up to 20 degrees Celsius, I make sure that my son is covered with sun block cream.

We started walking around 10AM from the School ground then turn left to Riddiford Street straight to Wellington Zoo.

After lunchtime, the kids went to Te Ao Maahina, The Twilight-Wellington Zoo’s nocturnal house to see Tahi, the one-legged kiwi.

According to the Zoo keeper, Tahi lost his leg after it was caught in a hunting trap in the bush. Despite best efforts, vets were unable to save it, so his leg was amputated just below the knee joint.

Zoo keeper added, “Tahi’s is a very important story that we need to tell. Tahi is living proof of the damage human kiwis can do to kiwi, our national bird. However, he is strong, healthy and perfectly capable of getting around on his one leg.”
